The exhibition “Is There Life Without Biodiversity?” is an interactive story about the importance of biodiversity, highlighting the interconnectivity of various living organisms and their fragility in ensuring a healthy and balanced living environment. By exploring four habitats, visitors learn about their inhabitants and are invited to imagine – what would life be without biodiversity.
In nature, every living creature, even the smallest, has its own role. Like many pieces of a puzzle, correctly assembled in a picture, countless species of plants, animals, fungi and microorganisms are interconnected, creating a healthy and balanced living environment on our planet. Unfortunately, human activity has caused great changes in nature and contributed to the extinction of various species, but the loss of one species affects many others.
Take a symbolic walk through four habitats found in Latvia and play games to learn how species that live in forests, meadows, raised bogs and beaver ponds are interconnected. By exploring every habitat, you will not only discover biodiversity in each one, but will also be challenged to think about the human impact. You will be invited to visit yet another habitat – environment, that is completely transformed, and seems ideal.
The exhibition has been created by the museum's natural science specialists, representing various fields – ecology, geology, botany, mycology and zoology.
